Dr. J Parekh


He is co-founder of the newly named EyeCare Consultants of NJ, a 45-year old comprehensive eye care practice in northern and central NJ, as well as Chief of Cornea, External Diseases, Medical Director of the Research Institute at St. Joseph’s Health. He is also a founder of the Center for Ocular Surface Excellence of New Jersey (COSE-NJ), a center dedicated in a team-approach to the field of ocular surface diseases including dry eye, blepharitis, ocular allergies, and contact-lens overwear syndrome. Dr. Parekh is also an active Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine of Mt. Sinai, NY, and on the Cornea Service at the New York Eye Ear Infirmary of Mt.Sinai where he did his fellowship nearly two decades ago. He completed medical school at the Boston University School of Medicine Early Acceptance Program and remained in Boston to fully train in Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology where he was Chief Resident in both specialties. Dr. Parekh co-founded and was chosen to be on the Board of Directors for the Society of Academic Medicine, the Vanguard Ophthalmic Society, the American-European College of Ophthalmic Surgery, CEDARS-ASPENS Alliance, he has served on the Editorial Board of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today. Dr. Parekh’s interests include the ocular surface, complex cataract surgery and innovation, drug delivery, practice/disease management, integrated eyecare, business development, strategy, entrepreneurship, and medical philanthropy; he earned an MBA with a concentration in HealthCare Sector Management at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Dr J was recently named to the prestigious Ocular Surgery News (OSN) Premier Surgeon 300 Innovators in Refractive Cataract Surgery, an honor that was bestowed upon 300 of the top cataract surgeons in the country!

Dr  Parekh has travelled the world in Panama, Canada, much of Europe, Dubai, China, India, Singapore, the Philippines, and even South Korea to educate, lecture, and participate in an exchange of ideas in cataract and corneal surgery. He has led eye surgical camps to help serve the less privileged as well.

Dr Parekh is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, ASCRS, the Cornea Society & ARVO. He resides in NJ with his wife of 25 years and 3 children. His interests include sports, ie the New York Yankees, travelling, technology, being with his family, cooking, and philanthropy. Dr Parekh is on the board of schools and hospitals in the Northern NJ area.
